PFAS: The Hidden Threat in Your Tap Water

PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) are a group of thousands of industrial chemicals valued for their resistance to heat, water, and oil. Unfortunately, this durability means they don't break down easily, earning them the nickname "forever chemicals."

They contaminate water sources through industrial discharge, firefighting foam runoff, and other means. This is a significant concern for businesses across the Southeast, including Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee, as these chemicals can accumulate in the body and are linked to serious health issues.

Providing safe drinking water is essential for employee health, morale, and demonstrating corporate responsibility.

EPA ACTION: Strict New PFAS Limits (April 2024)

The EPA now legally requires public water systems to meet incredibly low limits for key PFAS, including PFOA & PFOS at just **4 parts per trillion (ppt)**. While suppliers must act, can you be sure your tap water consistently meets these levels *today*?

Targeted Multi-Stage Filtration

Our systems utilize advanced technologies like **Reverse Osmosis (RO)** and **Activated Carbon** filters, proven highly effective at significantly reducing a wide range of PFAS compounds, including PFOA and PFOS, often below detectable levels.

Lab-Verified Performance

Don't just take our word for it. See our independent test results below! We demonstrate dramatic PFAS reduction in real-world Georgia conditions, giving confidence to clients in AL, TN, and beyond.

Reliable Service & Maintenance

Your flat monthly rate includes all scheduled filter changes (typically annual for standard, ~3 years for RO/UF) and system upkeep by our certified technicians.

See the Proof: BWS Filtration vs. PFAS Contamination

We commissioned independent lab testing on tap water from a known high-PFAS area near Calhoun, GA, comparing it against water filtered by BWS systems. The results clearly show the power of point-of-use filtration.

PFAS Levels: Tap Water vs. BWS Filtered Water (ppt)

This table compares PFAS levels (in parts per trillion) before and after filtration using BWS systems with filters aged 8 to 18 months. **Note the EPA limit for PFOA/PFOS is 4 ppt.** Values marked 'ND' were Non-Detect.

Test Highlights & Key Findings:

  • Tap Water Exceeds EPA Limits: Source water showed PFOA at 16 ppt & PFOS ~8 ppt – **exceeding** EPA's 4 ppt limits. PFBS levels were also very high (180-190 ppt).
  • BWS RO Systems: Reduced **ALL** tested PFAS, including PFOA/PFOS, to **Non-Detect (ND)** levels, even with filters aged 8 & 18 months.
  • BWS UF System: Also reduced critical PFOA/PFOS to **ND** and slashed PFBS by over 99% at 10 months.
  • Filter Longevity: Exceptional results achieved with filters well into their service life demonstrate reliability between scheduled maintenance.

The Verdict: BWS filtration, especially RO, provides a robust, verified defense against common PFAS, delivering significantly safer water exceeding EPA standards.

PFAS Filtration FAQs

What PFAS limits did the EPA just set?

In April 2024, the EPA finalized enforceable limits (MCLs) for 6 PFAS: 4 parts per trillion (ppt) each for PFOA & PFOS, and 10 ppt each for PFNA, PFHxS, & GenX. They also use a Hazard Index for mixtures of four PFAS (PFNA, PFHxS, PFBS, GenX).

Do BWS filters remove all these regulated PFAS?

Our Reverse Osmosis (RO) systems are highly effective at removing a broad spectrum of PFAS, including all those currently regulated by the EPA, typically to non-detectable levels. Our advanced Carbon filtration (like in the I12 RO cooler) and UF systems also significantly reduce levels, often to non-detect, as shown in our reference tests.

Is my city's water definitely contaminated?

PFAS contamination varies. While public water systems must now test and treat, levels can fluctuate, and testing might not cover all PFAS types. Many businesses in GA, AL, TN, and across the Southeast choose point-of-use filtration for an added layer of safety and consistent quality, regardless of municipal levels.

How often are BWS filters changed?

Standard filters (like carbon pre-filters) are typically changed annually. Specialized membranes like RO or UF are usually replaced every 3 years, depending on water usage and quality. All required maintenance and filter changes are included in our service agreement.

Can BWS test my specific office water for PFAS?

Due to the high cost and specialized lab requirements for accurate PFAS testing ($ hundreds per sample), we don't conduct site-specific PFAS tests as a standard part of our service or free trial. However, during a free consultation, we will:

  • Discuss available water quality reports for your municipality in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, etc.
  • Review our filtration performance test results (showing effectiveness in high-PFAS water) to provide clear reference points.
  • Recommend the most appropriate BWS system (like RO or advanced Carbon/UF) based on known local conditions and your needs, ensuring significant PFAS reduction and peace of mind.
